The Advantages of Museums By Martha Harrell The museums of the world are fun and educational to visit, but also, they are helpful. When disasters or wars strike, they provide a cord of communication for the future, not just the past. People do not just fly through life by the seat of their pants; they are dependent on the past. Even the speculations about the future in science fiction are related to what went before. While the technology of the past may seem primitive to us today, so may ours seem thin and insignificant to the generations to come. As an artist, I value tradition as much as innovation. I do not copy the past, but I admire its achievements and I learn from it. Therefore I visit museums whenever I can, whenever I travel. Some of my favorites: Smithsonian and National Museum of Art, Washington, D.C.
